BCH becomes biggiest gainer in the top 20 in the past 24 hrs. with 11% due to pending hard fork on 11/15.  Coinbase announced it will support the hard fork.  It says:

We will pause sends and receives on the BCH wallets at Coinbase.com, in our iOS and Android apps, and at Coinbase Pro and Prime beginning at 8:00AM PST on 11/15/2018 (approximately 1 hour before the fork). Please be sure all BCH sends and receives are completed prior to that time. During the pause, your BCH will remain safely at Coinbase.”

Crypto is gaining popularity in Africa. Binance signs up 40000 crypto Traders in its first week in Uganda, a country where nearly 3 out 4 people don’t have bank accoutns.   The study shows 74% of Ugandan households are unbanked but Binance’s CEF said they only have to have money within the mobile payment system.  They don’t have bank accounts.  Cypto will help to solve issues such as:

Lack of liquidity
A 2014 national census revealed nearly 10 percent of Ugandan households received remittance from neighboring Kenya, only a few percentage points below the most popular remittance sources in Europe, Sweden and Germany. But these transfers carry high conversion fees, creating demand for alternatives.

High Unemployment and demand for imported products
Rampant unemployment beyond the agricultural industry and demand for imported products.  There's a large consumer market for people purchasing cars, for example, because bitcoin is legal tender in Japan," where the cars are manufactured.
Trading crypto currencies offers educated young people look online for opportunities to earn, shop with, and trade crypto when white-collar jobs are scarce.

20190114-Bitmain-BTC goes down to $1800?

Crypto Cowboy: Problem with BTC space – centralization of the BTC.       The 6 biggest mining companies in the world are calling the shots and they are mostly Chinese.   Also big banks are entering the space.    Right now it looks like Bitmain is going down.
